I am an avid cyclist, and feel like there are some seriously 'assy' cyclists out there taking their sweet time without any other consideration for other road users! Have they ever driven in their life ? Can you look over your shoulder once in a while, seriously!

I have been teaching cycle training for quite sometime now and am pretty confident in the content we are delivering to cyclists wanting to get more savvy around round abouts, on major crossings etc. Its quite evident though that there are many road users (having never had any professional training ) that think they are riding well and can manage just fine.....little do they know, they have several other road users in behind them cursing their arses off!

So how do we go about converting the daft into savvy cyclists, and the fast paced courier racers to take a back seat once in a while ? We are interested to hear your thoughts. Email us:

Hello All,
There are many bikes being advertised on the market at present. Its very easy to fall in love with an image of one on-line and impulse buy. We highly do NOT recommend this.

So many pretty bikes will fall apart in the first 6-8 months of having them and ultimately 'you get what you pay for'! You can expect poor paint jobs (tatty over one season) peeling decals, losing nuts, bolts, screws, and problems with cheap components that result in more money out of your pocket for repairs. In the end you pay the same as having bought a bicycle that could stand the test of time with these performance tests.

If you plan on having a bike for more than one season of riding, aim for £400+ or higher, and you will be ensured more quality and a better investment in your riding future ! Don't let your pretty bike end up in the dump, your better off pushing your budget for something higher quality :) Cyclescheme is a great way to make it more affordable and we recommend that you do NOT miss this opportunity if offered in your workplace.

Luv Handles & the Metropolitan Police Wandsworth Neighborhood Team are joining forces on 16th of July, to educate locals on how they can better protect their bikes from thieves. Both teams will be set up on Northcote road at the Saturday market to show residents how to lock their bikes appropriately, get appropriate bike insurance and share sources of free on line bike registry's that anyone can list their bikes with. Clearly more enthusiasts would be riding more if the roads were more gracious to its users, but let's face it...those things take time, planning and serious development strategy. You would think the city would build the roads first, and then begin to heavily promote the use of bikes ? Surely ? I do feel things are lagging in some areas while this culture is clearly beginning to boom. For example:

I admit that at present I use footpaths ( sidewalks) pedestrian allocated areas to navigate my bicycle so that I am on safer ground where the many London streets fail me. It is important to follow law and respect the other users, so I am ultra conscious of traveling the same speed as pedestrians so that I do not go racing by them and create a dis harmony between us. You could say I am the cycling Jesus of the pavement ! I have tried to find a balance so that all methods of transport are considered, but common'... this is tuff !

I was pulled over recently and told I would be charged £500 buckaroos for using a pedestrians paved area. This is RIDICULOUS ! Again keeping with the laws of the land is key, and I can appreciate the need for enforcement, awareness and overall control measures... BUT I was on an empty piece of pavement in Battersea and not a person in sight. Surely, we can use our judgment on this one ?

I would be happy to pay a fine, if I knew that money was going to making fluent paths, that see me over a bridge safely, and take me from point A to B without circling around half of London. So let's get it right London !! If there is not one of these paths like I have shown below in the picture, you can expect to see me safely, and consciously using what is available -I'm not paying those fines, and will appeal them till London first and foremost, gets its FOUNDATIONAL structures right!

It's are truly kicking off for summer now and the weather is just barely cooperating. We plan to be active around the community this weekend at Northcote Road's Carnival Sunday. We should have a few of our bikes roaming about and offering test rides to all. Look for the Dandelion Cafe by Bramfield Road and we will be perched in front of their premises selling organic sodas to keep you refreshed on the day!
